The History Zyanov School for the Magically Gifted was founded in 1204, making it one of the oldest wizarding schools in Europe. It was founded with the help of the Ministry of Magic in Transylvania and they provided the finance needed to build the new school. This turned out to be a bigger project than first anticipated. The first Headmaster, Ivanov Macek, wanted to make a school which would accept students that the other major wizarding schools refused to accept so, to accommodate these students, the school had to be built underground. With the aid of magic, it took just under seventy years to complete the school. Big enough to hold one thousand students and a hundred professors, it was a grand feat of engineering. Considering the students that were to be taught there, it was surprising to find that many professors were eager to sign up. These students were, different, to say the least. With vampires, werewolves and the occasional half giant living there, strict rules had to be put in place to ensure the safety of the professors, other students and those living in the surrounding villages. In its first year, the school took in two hundred students and has grown in numbers ever since. As almost all of the students do not age, the school years only represent how long a student has been there. A first year student could be 100 years old but they had only just entered their first year, which is just the same as a 15 year old entering their seventh year.
The school follows the curriculum set out by the Transylvanian Ministry of Magic. There is a focus on the Dark Arts but English lessons are compulsory for all students up to BAT Level. This may seem strange, teaching a non magical subject in a school such as this, but it was decided that the students would have a better start after leaving Zyanov if they had a good grasp of English. Students are also allowed to take other language classes if they so wish, but not many students take up this offer. There is no limit on the number of BATs a students may study just as long as they keep up to date with their work. Classes are taken with students of the same year across the year groups, which present lots of problems, but the strict rules usually keep the students in line.
Zyanov School for the Magically Gifted has five houses. Each of these five houses value different virtues, just like those at Hogwarts, however the house rivalries are a lot clearer with the Zyanov students. As at Hogwarts, the Zyanov students are sorted when they first arrive at the school. There is no sorting hat or magical goblet, they didn’t seem fitting for a school which was so different from the norm. The students are called up, in alphabetical order, in front of the entire school. On the large mahogany desk, sits a small wooden chest, made from the finest bloodwood and decorated with gold studs. Now I’m sure you’ll want to know what is inside the chest. Well if you’ll just be patient, I will explain. Inside the chest is magical fire. Now I know this sounds impossible, but believe me, it’s not. The fire itself is the brightest white in colour. As a student places their hand within the fire, it flickers, changes colour and writes the name of the chosen house high in the air for all to see. The fire cannot sing, but the Fire Ceremony is still an important part of the first night feast. But this can take place no more since the school was destroyed. The five houses are: Suluri, Neajurtorat, Intuneric, Ceresc and Sangeros.

Suluri Suluri is the house where the knowledgeable feel at home. This house is the most similar to the houses at Hogwarts, its equivalent being Ravenclaw. Suluri students prefer to work alone rather than in large groups, however not all students are the same. With this thirst for knowledge comes a slight arrogance which can be found in many Suluri students. They know they are more intelligent than most of the students in the school and choose to show this off at any opportunity. The house colour, turquoise, is displayed proudly on banners adorned with the Kraken, the Suluri symbol. Suluri house’s main rival is Ceresc as the battle for brains verses beauty continues. They tend to get on well with the other houses as they are respected by other students. The house has roughly equal numbers of males and females and it is the second largest house in Zyanov. They tend to be competitive in everything they take part in, which includes Quidditch. The house philosophy is “animum maximum” – greatest minds, which tends to be chanted around school. They can keep up with the best of them and always obtain top grades, with little or lots of effort. Suluri alumni tend to take up positions in government and other important roles such as acting as ambassadors for their country and school.

Intuneric Intuneric is the house you have to watch out for. Intuneric students tend to break the rules at every opportunity. They often have a past which involves owls from the Transylvanian Ministry. Some have even spent a couple of years behind bars, but don’t let that put you off, they’re a nice bunch really once you get to know them. I’d say they won’t bite, but then I’d be lying. They are fiercely competitive and will do whatever it takes to win. If they think they can get away with something, they’ll do it, and if not, they’ll probably do it anyway. They are the troublemakers, the chaos-causers. The Intuneric house colour is black, which is rather appropriate as many students have the blackest hearts you will ever find. The Intuneric students are a mixed bunch, some pass their exams with flying colours, whist others are too concerned on their next big trick to even contemplate the prospect of homework. The house symbol is a dragon in midflight, or preparing for an attack as they like to say. Their main house rivalry is with Sangeros. This is the worst rivalry in the school and many students have been hurt when the two meet up for Quidditch matches or even for Midnight feasts. This has always been the case and one of the reasons which contributed to Intuneric house being moved to the other side of the school to reduce the number of clashes between the two houses.

Sangeros Sangeros students are few and far between which is probably for the best. They are known for being especially vicious and the ones who have to feed the most frequently. Sangeros is a predominately male house and it is also the smallest house at Zyanov with only 8% of first year students being sorted here. Sangeros students are the cruel of the cruel, well apart from a scattered few. They might fight the other houses, but they are loyal to one another. If you were to ask for secrets of the Sangeros house, a Sangeros would never answer. The house colour is red as blood, deep but at the same time dark. The colour fits them perfectly for their uncontrolled thirst. Their house symbol is the manticore, which is known to be a furious and evil beast. They drink even when they have no need to. They are the most sensitive to different types of blood and often like to keep momentos to remember each of their victims. [/blockquote]

Ceresc Ceresc students are beautiful. That’s it. The house name Ceresc means heavenly in the English language and this is the perfect word to describe the students which are sorted into this house. They are charmers and always tend to get their own way with little or no effort. The house colour is gold and the symbol is the phoenix, which is always painted on banners for quidditch matches and other events. However Ceresc students have a certain arrogance about them due to the fact that they know they are the most beautiful students in the school. They also tend to come from wealthy families and families with connections in the ministry or other influential individuals. They tend to get on with all the other houses at Zyanov, except for Suluri as the brains vs beauty battle continues. They tend to struggle with lessons, but they can use their beauty to influence others to help them with anything they need. Of course, they are some exceptions, some who break the brains or beauty mold, but they are few and far between. Ceresc alumni often find themselves in the muggle world, with a role in acting, modelling or even music, depending on their talents.

Neajurtorat Neajurtorat is the largest Zyanov house. Its symbol is the thestral and its colour is a burnt orange. Neajurtorat students are friendly and they are always eager to meet new people and strike up new relationships. They have a calm temperament and are usually optimistic about most things. They study hard and they play hard too but they never let competition get ahead of enjoyment. It is essential that everyone has a good time. This house is very close, they always look out for each other and stick together through the tough times. They get on with all the other houses but the other houses view them as weak. This, of course, is not true, but it’s difficult to change the views of generations of students. They are caring but if forced into a corner they can be very vicious. They tend to shy away from confrontation when possible, but there are some who dive right in. They can be very stubborn at times.
