it was just before sunset, and it was the summer before scorpius' seventh year. his big hand held lily's tiny one tightly, as he pulled her along behind him through the field. it was nothing more than a couple going to find a place to spend some alone time. he had no ideas, he just knew he needed to be alone with her. so he took her away from her home, and escaped his. they set out on a journey that lead to a shack just beyond an empty field underneath a huge oak tree. they'd been there plenty of times to know that it was a safe and uncommon place for people just to happen upon.
he wore an old black t-shirt, and a rugged pair of jeans. he wore a backwards cap, with his hair patted down. lily looked beautiful though, her bright red hair burning as bright as day in the dying sun.
soon enough the shack came into view, it's dirty red boards looking broken and rugged. the green oak tree hung down low upon the roof of the shack, it's trunk wide and leaves swaying in the breeze. the sun was just across the other side of the shack, the sky slowly turning pink and orange. in the distance on the opposite side of the sunset a group of clouds had begun to gather darkly. it seemed to be far off, so scorp didn't worry about it's dangers.
"lily, do you see it? just the way we left it, m'love."

lily couldn't help but feel totally at ease. it wasn't too hard for her to get away from her family to see scorpius, but, despite what he told her, she knew he had trouble getting away to see her. however, he always managed to make time to come see her and whisk her off. not that lily minded that at all. anything she did with the older boy was quite alright with him. he was, after all, one of the best things in her life. he seemed to complete her in every way she needed, and that was perfectly fine with her.
the sun was warm on her cheeks as she followed scorpius through the familiar field. the tall grass brushed her bare calves and made her nose scrunch. she kept her fingers threaded through the other's, her smile never fading from her lips. her mind was at ease as they neared the little shack they'd stumbled upon some time ago. back then it'd been their fort they ran off to, but now they went there to be totally alone. they'd made it their own over the years and set a few enchantments over it when scorpius had turned seventeen. now some of their pictures lined little shelves that had been nailed up and a little futon had been added for their comfort.
when the little building came into view, lily's smile doubled. her hand tightened around the boy's, her eyes crinkling in the corners as they always dd when she smiled. as usual, lily launched herself at his back, climbing up and wrapping her legs around his waist and arms loosely around his neck. she nuzzled his neck, planting a small kiss there. "hmm, i'm glad." she said softly, her chin sitting lightly on his shoulder.

scorpius shivered as she kissed his neck, a smile spreading unevenly on his face. he walked forward, his finger pointing up at the pink and orange horizon. "do you see that? we haven't seen a sunset like that since the last time we were here. it's almost as beautiful as you, lily. almost." he said, throwing her across his shoulder and into his arms, holding her like a baby. "i can't wait to see the inside again." he walked on, his footsteps crunching the twigs underneath his feet.
he finally reached the faded blue curtain of the shack, pushing it aside and walking into the shaded room. a few boards squeaked underneath him, ones they would eventually have to replace, but it seemed to be in good condition for now. the futon was a little dusty, so he sat lily down on the ground and took the blankets stacked in a drawer out and laid them across the black futon. he looked at the room then, remembering the times they use to have. all the innocent memories with toys and playing hide and go seek.
he could still see the young lily, her hair red as ever. he could still imagine her skipping through the thick grass, her small finger pointing at morning sun. they weren't ever allowed out past six, so when they were smaller they went in the morning and ate lunch underneath the oak tree and talk about who knows what. they were small, and back then, that was enough.

"always so sappy, love." she said with a grin, hugging her arms around him tighter. but then she was being pulled over his shoulder, finally settling into his arms. "scorp!" she cried, giving him a mock glare as he carried her. "s'not nice to catch a lady off guard like that..." but it was all for show, and he knew that. she rested her head upon his chest and resigned to just let him carry her the rest of the way. he'd end up carrying her anyway, even if she protested.
and then they'd entered the little shack. it was exactly as she'd remembered, even down to which floorboards creaked under their weight. as was usual, scorp set her down to get the blankets they'd stored in a cupboard so many years ago. when he'd put them on the futon, she plopped down on it, pulling the other with her. it was always nice to have some alone time with him, even if it was only for a little while.
she reached up, her lips brushing scorp's softly. she kept her eyes closed, a small smile left from kissing the boy. lily let herself fall back, laughing when her body met with the bed. "what's the plan for today, love?
