It was officially too late to go to classes. Then again, it had been too late two hours ago. Not that Naomi cared. School wasn't her thing, something she probably got from her father. And her mother, though bright, had other interests. Both of her parents, in fact, were much more into Quidditch. School was secondary. Not that Naomi wasn't encouraged to do well with academics, but she didn't feel the need to focus every second of every day on studying her subjects. There were classes she liked, of course, but it was more of a bother to go.
No, spending the day laying in the Forbidden Forest, the sunlight streaming through the leaves and branches of the trees and flickering across her skin, sounded like a much better use of her time. She'd leave before dinner and make it to Astronomy later.
Now though... peace. And warmth. The weather was surprisingly mild for the time of the year, and the large trees surrounding her blocked any wind from sweeping in the cold.
Naomi lay on the forest floor, knees bent and arms out beside her, she looked to the sky, through the tree branches, and into the sun. There were no clouds... just a pale sky and a bright sun.
Next to her was a brown, paper bag full of candy. All sorts of sweets. Chocolates and caramels and sugary balls and sour-y tarts.
Reaching into the bag, Naomi pulled out a butter-cream butter-ball, popped it into her mouth, and moaned.
"Now this, this is the life."

He'd originally come out to just to run and pounce and maybe hunt some small woodland creatures. Normally, he'd escape somewhere to do yoga, but lately it just wasn't cutting it. What with all of his feelings regarding Stanislav and his attempts at finding the box in his heart labeled "Love For Stani" and crushing it, life wasn't that great right now.
And being a cat was just simpler. Yes, he knew his problems would still be there when he got back, but it was nice to have a break. Right now, all he had to worry about was enjoying the surrounding smells and sounds, the feel of his whiskers as he moved past plants and stones, and constantly staying on the watch for a new plaything. Oh, like that big green bug!
He pranced over - because, really, that bug wasn't going anywhere fast - and started batting at it with a paw. Merlin, this was more fun than it should be, and Felix gladly let himself sink a little further into his catlike nature. He knew better than to allow himself to go too far, but his human worries wouldn't leave his head completely anyway.
Suddenly, his ears pricked and his tail twitched and the big green bug got away, because there was something far more interesting to investigate.
"Now this, this is the life."
The voice came from nearby and all it took was a few well-placed steps and a leap over a root and a stretch to get under another in order to see who it had come from. A girl with dark hair and rather stunning features was lying on the forest floor, relaxing between the trees.
Felix had no idea who this girl was, but she had to be a student to be on Hogwarts grounds and - Oh. OH.
If he'd been in human form, Felix's thoughts would have been: She has CANDY. But since he was a cat, his thoughts were: She has a PAPER BAG! Because candy made cats sick. But paper bags? Those were the BEST THINGS EVER.
Instantly, all thoughts of hunting were abandoned and Felix crouched low and stalked closer to his new prey. The girl wasn't paying attention and this was going to be both easy and BRILLIANT. Once he was finally in range, still hidden by the undergrowth, Felix coiled onto his back legs, doing the little butt wiggle that he couldn't seem to pounce without, and jumped.

Her eyes were closed and her mind was clear. Like a room made of glass, freshly wiped clean, not a spot to be found. She was in a relaxed, meditative state. Her body felt everything, and yet nothing at all. Not the ground under her hands, not the leaf in her hair. She did not hear. She did not smell. Everything was settled, as if she had been frozen in time. A single moment where nothing existed except calm.
Naomi hadn't felt much of that in her life. Her body was more used to excitement and wonder and adrenaline and fascination. It wasn't exactly anxiety or stress or anything such as that... no, Naomi rarely felt those, either. But she liked feeling alive.
Alive. That was it. Feeling like she was part of the world. Feeling like she wasn't wasting a second.
Every once in awhile, though, she liked to just stop, take a breath, and hold it for as long as possible. To enjoy the easy waters instead of the waves.
So, with the state she was in, she didn't have even the slightest sense that something was lurking in the forest.
That was, until it jumped at her.
Startled, Naomi shot up to a sitting position. Her eyes landed on the creature who had pounced, expecting to see some large, hungry animal who smelled a fresh meal silly enough to plop down in the forest like it was a buffet table, but instead...
It was a cat.
A fuzzy, black cat.
And it was on her bag of candy.
She blinked. Her heart slowed down a bit.
"Okay."
Adjusting herself, she crossed her legs and stared at the feline. He was a beautiful cat.
"Welcome."
She smiled... a confused, yet happily surprised smile.
"I suppose, as a polite hostess, I should offer you something to eat. But..."
She reached out her hand, gently and slowly, and placed her fingertips on the edge of the bag.
"I'm certain that candy isn't good for you. So I'll just take that back."
