The room of requirement was, by far, the best room in the castle. Mainly due to the fact that it could be many rooms and that not every student new about it. It could also be used to keep certain people out, which was an added bonus. At this current moment in time, the room resembled a large hall, quite similar to the Great Hall seven floors below. The high vaulted ceiling seemed to stretch on forever. Several cupboards were dotted about the room, filled with cushions, duelling dummies and the occasional packet of crumpets.
A huge open fireplace was situated half way along the right hand wall. The flames leapt up the brickwork, occasionally sputtering and throwing out odd sparks. Zane Lestrange was lying in front of the fireplace, staring into the flames, fountain pen in one hand, letter paper in the other. As you've probably guessed, he was writing a letter. To whom? To one of his old acquaintances who he had been exchanging letters with for years.
He knew there was a meeting in about an hour's time. A little first year had whispered it to him during breakfast. So, thinking ahead, he had decided to write his letter in the room of requirement before everyone else arrived.

James was on his way to the meeting. He was half an hour early which was good because he needed to look through some stuff and plan some things before the meeting started and also he needed to talk to Zagen. The room of requirement was a fantastic room. It was just so ready for the users need and wouldn't ever let you down. He got to the corridor where the hidden entrance was and walked past it thrice.
After the door appeared he walked through into the room, eyes engrossed in papers, plans and general admin for the group. He didn't notice the blonde person lying by the fireplace but proceeded to the table sitting at the head of it picking up a quill and starting to write amendments to the plan or questions or points that needed clarifying. He hoped the message about the secret meeting had been just that, secret. He didn't want people gatecrashing it. Especially a specific best friend.
At the thought of Zane, he put his quill down and put his head in his hands. He and Zane had been arguing for ages. James had tried to make up with him but the blooming prospect of the plan was making him worried. Would this damage their friendship beyond repair? He feared it would, but it was for the greater good. Zane had been too passive in his methods and it was time for change he was sure of that. But he was not looking forward to the look of betrayal that he'd receive from Zane when the plan was put into action.

The words kept flowing onto the parchment, detailing everything he had been doing since his last letter and what he was planning to do in the following week. To many people, letter writing for correspondence, besides writing to your parents or friends over the holidays, had fallen completely out of practise. Zane however, was determined to keep up the practise and avidly wrote back whenever he received a letter. This letter was intended for a penpal of sorts, something he didn't like to make public. It wasn't that he was embarassed or anything, he just wanted to keep it on the down low, and if any of his friends found out, it wouldn't have been. This is private anyway, they don't have to know about everything I do.
As he continued to write, he heard the door open. He lay still and silently until the newcomer had passed by and settled at a table. Zane took a quick peak over his shoulder and realised that it was James, his "best friend" but not exactly flavour of the month right now. It seemed as though James had just completed ignored him, or maybe he hadn't actually noticed him. Turning his attention away from James, he looked back down at his letter and continued to write once more, but it was not the words of his letter that preoccupied his mind, rather the fact that James had called a meeting and not said anything about it to him.
A secret meeting. What's he planning? Okay so it's no way near my birthday, so that can't be it, not that he'd be the one orchestrating it. So what is it? He kept writing, focusing on bringing the letter to a close, speaking quietly, "completely ignoring me now, are you?"

James continued to scribble notes on the parchments in front of him going through the plan in his head. Only one thing was bothering him and that was the idea of betraying a friend who had stuck by him through thick and thin all his school life. Zane had been there for him for those seven years and had never betrayed his trust. Though in recent weeks Zane seemed not to trust him. He growled slightly under his breath at the thought. He trusted Zane with his life...quite literally at some points of their friendship, and to find out that he didn't have that same trust in him was a bullet to the heart. He didn't want to betray his friend, but Zagen was right. The only way for this war to stop is action. The NO needed to act. At the moment it was seen as a joke organisation that would do nothing even when some of its members were kidnapped. Well not anymore. James had plans to stop that. Zagen was a good leader...probably one of the best, but enough was enough. He was sick of taking things lying down, sick of not retaliating when the DE attacked members. It was time to act and James was determined to be at the front leading when that time came. He was pulled out of his thoughts when he heard someone talking and jumped looking up having previously thinking he was alone. He looked around trying to locate the source of the talking hoping it was Zagen. Then his eyes fell on the blonde hair of Zane and he swore under his breath, "sh*t Zane I didn't know you were there. I'm wasn't ignoring you no I seriously didn't see you." he said watching him seeing him writing a letter. "He still writing to her?" he thought angrily. This was another thing. They couldn't have a leader who was writing to the leader of the enemy all the time. Outfit.

Once again thank you for your letter. Yours sincerely, Zane.
He finished the letter, folding it in half precisely before sealing it. "Well maybe it's better if you carry on not seeing me. After all, it's a secret meeting, isn't it?" He takes out another sealed letter from his pocket, writes a few words on the outside before stuffing it back in his pocket, along with the other letter. He picked up the fountain pen once again and turned to the remaining sheet of parchment which lay on the floor beside him. He began writing once more, "don't even deny it James. I was informed this morning that this meeting was taking place, so don't even think about saying it's pure coincidence that you're here with all your papers and plans, ok?". He spoke quietly, keeping calm but feeling more annoyed as the minutes ticked by.

James stood up slowly folding the papers putting them in the pocket of his jacket watching Zane listening to him. As soon as he mentioned the secret meeting James was on the back foot "sh*t he knows! But how? Who blabbed...probably a first year...god they are idiots." was what went through his head. He looked at Zane about to deny it when Zane started talking again and shut his mouth thinking "want the truth? I was planning a surprise party for you. I know it's not your birthday but I've felt like so much crap has come between us I wanted to do something nice for you. Those were plans for orders of food and drink and a dj and things like that and now you've spoiled it." he lied smoothly but hoping that Zane wouldn't see through it as Zane was one of the few people who always knew when he was lying "Please let Zagen get here soon before I say something stupid." he preyed.

Zane remained on the floor, knowing that if he got to his feet there was a greater chance of him attempting to punch James if he lost his temper. A party? No that's rubbish. Jen wouldn't lie to me, would she? She has no reason to, unless she was threatened not to tell me what's really going on. First years hear things we don't think they've heard, this must be one of those cases. Anyway, why should she purposely send me up here, if it was for a surprise party? Someone's lying. And I hate to side against James but...surely there's no harm in believing a first year? It's not that I don't trust James it's just...surely there would be more people here if they were planning a party? Something's not right. "Then why was I informed at breakfast that there was a secret meeting going to be taking place in half an hour's time? Even if this person was lying, why would they want to purposely send me up here? This leads me to believe that they had good intentions. So James, what's really going on?"

He could see in Zane's eyes that he'd like to punch him and frowned at him. He watched as Zane thought through the validity of the lie and growled when he said what had alerted him to the secret meeting He was stuck now. He thought about whether to tell another lie or to tell the truth and wait for him to flip out. He decided on the semi truth, "Fine, I am holding this meeting to talk to the others about whether you are still fit to be leading the NO." He looked at him taking a deep breath, "I've found your letters to Charlotte and what's written in them is not what a leader should be telling the enemy, also I think you are not doing enough proactively to stop the attacks and things that are happening. The NO needs a change otherwise we'll all get slaughtered and I am going to be the one that makes that change." he said glaring at him slightly waiting for his reaction.

He looked back down at the parchment, gribbing his fountain pen tightly, trying to concentrate on the words that he was writing rather than the garbage coming out of James' mouth. "Still fit to be leading the New Order?" he muttered, shaking his head in disbelief, continuing to write. "My letters to Charlotte are none of your business. Anyway, I stopped writing to her last summer. Not that you'd have noticed that. And don't you dare even suggest I'm not doing enough, you have no idea how much I'm doing to prevent them." At James' last few words, he felt his heart skip a beat. "You were going to throw me out anyway, weren't you? Even if they didn't agree."

James scoffed hearing the garbage that came out of Zane's mouth this time. "No you haven't, that's what you told me and Rosie and Lils but I know for a fact it isn't true. You wrote a letter to her the day before yesterday and I'm sure if I look in those letters you've just stuffed into your jacket I would find one. They are my business Zane. She may not be doing much at the moment but she's still the leader of the enemy therefore the leader of the NO aka you shouldn't be writing to her. And I do dare Zane. You see you say you're doing a lot for the NO but I don't see it. None of us do. We haven't made a new plan for months." he said glaring at him scowling, "I wasn't going to throw you out anyway before I realised that enough was enough. It's got to the point where something has to be done and I intend to be the one to do it! They will agree." he said glaring at him.

"I wrote to her to tell her to stop writing to me," he said quietly, stabbing the parchment slightly with an overzealous full stop. "To whom I am writing really is none of your business, I don't read your letters, I respect your privacy. For your information, one of them is to your father, one to Charles Scott, the coach for the Wasps and this one, is for my Vivi. There, happy now?" He scribbled a few words down on the end of his letter, signing it and then folding it in half, placing it carefully in his pocket. "All plans don't have to be like your plans James, some of them aren't supposed to be seen, it's called, stealth." He laughed slightly at James' last point. "They will agree? Quite the little dictator, aren't you?"

James scoffed and rolled his eyes, "Bullshit!" he said watching him stab the parchment and growls, "To whom you are writing to is my business when it's her. And also...why are you writing to my father? And no I'm not happy...you shouldn't be writing to her." he said furiously and rolls eyes, "stealth? That's bollucks and I'm your second in command. You should tell me everything! My plans will work unlike your non-existent plans. AND I AM NOT A DICTATOR!"

"But the thing is James, it really isn't." he said quietly, gripping the fountain pen even tighter, sending the lid flying across the room. He got to his feet, heading over to retrieve said pen lid, "that also isn't really any of your business James, I'm sure Harry would tell you if he thought you would benefit from it. I was writing to Charlotte to tell her to stop writing to me, there's a difference." He picked up the pen lid, examining it for scratches before walking back to where he had been lying before, except this time, he remained on his feet. "I tell you everything that is related to the New Order, I even wrote you a note detailing this most recent one and left it with your papers, so it's not my fault if you didn't read it. Oh and you are quite the little dictator, didn't you hear yourself just now, 'they will agree'".

James glared at him. "It is Zane! You are not just writing to her to tell her to stop writing to you... you are both writing back and forth talking about everything and nothing to do with stopping." he watched as the pen lid rolled away glaring at him, "Yes it is. I have a right to know what you are talking to my father about. I'm going to ask dad about it and there's nothing you can do about it. He'll tell me, I know he will. And you do NOT tell me everything that is related to the NO, you didn't tell me about your last plan. You NEVER tell me the plans I always have to find out from Lils or from Ted. It's like you've never trusted me. Left in my papers? You didn't leave anything, you must have left it in another stack of papers I don't recall seeiung antyhing...or you're lying now to cover your own arse which I think is more likely. I'm not a dictator, I just know that people have been saying it for weeks now and they will see this is for the best. They will understand even if you don't." he said glaring at his best friend wishing he would have just either made more action plans, or had agreed to the suggestion that Zagen made by letter that he should let someone take over, but it seemed this was going to have to be resolved in the ugly fight. If it's a fight for the leadership Zane wanted, James was going to give it to him. He was not going to let this opportunity pass him by.

If it was one thing it was another. That was what this day had felt like. And it wasn't even over yet. Rubbing his eyes with his fingers, having shoved his sling bag over his shoulder, along with his books inside, he dragged his form toward where the meeting was going to take place. His feet hit the ground in careful movements, rubbing his neck as he walked.
His mind traveled over what was going to become, what was bound to happen. But it was for the best. Lestrange was unstable, needed to step down. That was definite and what not. He chuckled despite himself, glancing ahead down the hall. He doesn't know. Doesn't know. Which is good, oh so good. Now...to keep it that way. With a chuckle, he continued down the hall, heading toward the door.
And frowned as he opened it. ...He knows. Well, so much for the easy way. But whatever....he doesn't know everything. Shaking the other thought from his head, he quietly shut the door behind him shoving his hands into his pockets walking toward the arguing two. Now for the fireworks...and step two.
