Amadeus Carrow knew that someone wouldn't just go to the ministry of magic for no reason. If you were a smart person, you would never go to that place in the first place and avoid it at all costs. But sometimes, you had to go to the places you hated. And see the people you hated. In this case, Amadeus had to deal with both.
The slytherin male coughed, brushing off the scattered lingering flames as he stepped out of the fireplace. His hands slowly moved to brush off the dirt on his clothes, having decided to where just jeans, a dress shirt and a vest. Why should he bother dressing up nice? Amadeus dragged a hand threw his hair as he headed toward the elevator. He wasn't looking forward in seeing this person. But sometimes you couldn't help it.
As the elevator slowly took him to the aurors office, he leaned back against the door, hands shoved into his pockets. His mind traveled over thoughts of why he was here but didn't let it bother him. For the time being of course.
Instead, Amadeus headed out of the elevator, into where the auror office was, blank grey eyes staring around for that familiar figure of Tobias Carrow, his half-brother.

evan crane.
tobias had been chasing the guy all over the british countryside for three days. the bastard had evaded capture due to one small advantage: the fact that tobias' partner was a complete and total imbecile. the man could hardly cast simple spells, and he wasn't fit enough to run twenty yards, let alone over hill and dale after a criminal mastermind.
tobias knew he wasn't supposed to leave his partner behind. but he couldn't stand the guy. he needed to catch crane, and his partner wasn't about to keep him from that. as such, he cleverly cursed the poor guy when his back was turned, sent him on his way to st. mungo's, and then was off on his own, chasing the trail of mister crane. and, just as he'd suspected, crane was quite easy to capture once he'd rid himself of his idiot of a partner.
after a rather ridiculously long duel, crane was knocked out cold on the ground. tobias cast anti-apparation charms around his body, and called for backup to haul him off to azkaban to await trial there. once half a dozen aurors arrived, tobias popped back to his flat to shower and change, slicked back his hair, and then flooed into the ministry to catch up on paperwork.
it was all in a day's work, really, the capturing of criminals. people often thought the job of a hit wizard was something glamorous. that all you did all day was chase after bad guys and throw them in prison. but really, it was mostly paperwork. once he'd disposed of a target, he had a mountain of work to go through. and at the moment, he really wasn't looking forward to it.
as the lift announced that they'd arrived in the department of magical law enforcement, tobias stepped off, hands stuffed in the pockets of his coat, eyes forward as he made his way to his desk. and that was when he spotted amadeus. he crept up behind his brother, and noticed with a smirk that he still towered over the boy. but then again, amadeus was still in school, so perhaps he was being unfair.
"long time no see."
a simple greeting. a short greeting. not terribly friendly. but his brother deserved no better.

His brother wasn't in front of him, and by word of mouth he figured he was out on duty. So Amadeus had made himself busy in thinking over a few things while waiting for his brother to show his face.
"long time no see."
His body jerked on its own at the sudden voice behind his back. He twisted his form, not reaching his wand when he saw the face. Amadeus took a step back to look at his brother, raising an eyebrow in response. He was still shorter, but he supposed that would change in due time if he was lucky. "Long time no see yourself. See you haven't changed since the last time we crossed paths." He replied, shoving his hands back into his pockets. "Rough day?" He questioned, seeing that his hair looked freshly wet, showing he probably took a shower.

even just looking at his brother right now, tobias was reminded of how much he despised the boy. arrogant and idiotic and completely unaware of everything going on around him. and of course, he hadn't changed. amadeus never changed. pity, it was. if only he could've become a bit more intelligent. only then would tobias not consider it a chore to converse with him.
at the boy's comment, tobias raised an eyebrow. "you could say that," he answered, his tone cold. yes, he'd had an excruciatingly long three days, but if tobias was anything, he was strong, durable. he wasn't about to whine and complain simply because his job was a bit difficult. hell, that was why he liked being a hit wizard. it was dangerous, and exhilarating. besides, he liked putting the criminals away. they were always such idiots. and tobias always enjoyed a good duel with an idiot.
he slid his sunglasses off his face, placing them in a pocket inside his coat. he slid his hands into his pockets, looking his brother up and down, face still appearing as though it were chiseled out of stone. he wasn't about to crack a smile. not yet, anways. "so, to what do i owe the visit?" he asked. "it's not often that you seek out my company." it was true. usually, the two tried their best to stay as far away from each other as they could.

Tobias was staring at him with that look, that calculating look of his. Most people would flinch under the pressure and turn their face away from the once ravenclaw student. If you would smart you would do that no matter what. But Amadeus didn't back down to anyone. Especially his own brother. So instead of looking away, Amadeus kept eye contact with the other. "I can just tell by looking at you Tobias. You had a very rough week."
He seemed to pause at his brothers next words, moving his hands moving his arms crossed against his chest. Amadeus didn't like coming to visit his brother, or seeing him. But sometimes...family meant everything. "I know we usually never get along, nor do we get along with the woman who birthed us but...something happened to her if you haven't heard." He replied looking at his older brother before glancing cautiously around them both.

it was nice to know his brother wasn't scared of him. and tobias didn't expect him to be. after all, he wasn't smart enough to know just how dangerous tobias was. and for that, amadeus was terribly naive. but tobias met his brother's gaze in a cool and collected manner. he knew he was the alpha in the relationship. amadeus being an arrogant little prick wasn't about to change that.
tobias found the boy's comment funny, but he wasn't about to laugh. he simply thought it was comical that the boy thought he knew so much. amadeus had grown up in a steady home, was still living inside the protective bubble that was hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry. he didn't know the meaning of 'rough'. he'd never gotten beat within an inch of his life by muggle children when he was little. he'd always had a warm bed to sleep in, someone to tuck him in at night. sure, his parents weren't exactly sweethearts, but that didn't give him the right to talk like he owned the place.
so tobias declined to answer that little comment. he wouldn't give that to the boy. however, when amadeus started talking about their mother, tobias couldn't help but frown a bit. he wondered what the bitch was up to now. couldn't be any worse than her usual shenanigans, could it? he was almost relieved to hear that something had happened to her. "good riddance to the crazy old bitch," was all he said. he pushed past amadeus, making his way over ot his desk. if that was all the boy had to tell him, then tobias figured he'd get a start on his paperwork.

Amadeus didn't comment about his brothers stare or reaction. His brother believed fully that he was weak and never experienced the rough life that he experienced. Sure, he didn't go threw orphanages but he did have it rough. He survived a tragedy....he saw what life could throw at you when you weren't looking.
And he saw how bad it could be if you didn't pay attention and lie your mouth off. He saw that all too well. He heard his brother's reaction to that their mother was either in danger or hurt...and didn't know what to think. He hated her too. She wasn't the best mother, but still...she was their mother.
Amadeus followed after his brother, keeping calm as he followed. "She might not have been the best mother to either one of us but she is still our mother, Tobias. We should at least see what she got herself into this time...and decide from there whether or not to help. But whatever. I guess her favorite son doesn't want to see what she got herself into and maybe make it worse." he remarked, standing in front of his desk.

tobias almost lost his cool when his brother followed him to his desk, babbling about how alecto was their mother, about how she might not have been the best mother, but they still should've cared about her. he could've wrung the boy's neck right then. obviously, amadeus didn't understand what that woman was capable of. obviously, he didn't get that she was a sick, sadistic bitch and she in no way deserved to be called a mother.
"she's no mother of mine," he hissed back at his brother, settling down in his desk and starting on the stack of files on the corner of his desk. he opened the first folder, sticking the end of his quill in some ink and then beginning to dictate notes to it. he'd charmed all his quills a long while back to simply write whatever he said. and they'd become rather smart over the years. they would gramatically check his sentences, and would often make him sound smarter than what he actually said.
he turned to look at amadeus, his eyes livid. "i'd prefer to keep myself as far away from her as possible," he told the boy. and with that, he grabbed another file and started filling out the paperwork inside, all the while dictating lines to his quill, which was working furiously on the other folder.

Amadeus saw how his brother wanted to murder him, and honestly, he could careless. He didn't deserve to die in front of his sibling, or by his own blood. In fact, he rather it be of old age. He leaned back on the heels of his feet, listening to his brothers words and quiet protests. He quieted down then felt something click.
If he heard that correctly, Tobias didn't like their mother too an huge extent. It could probably be argued that he had a slight very small fear of the woman. Of course that was what Amadeus was believing.
The male snorted in reply at his brothers words, giving him a stare. "You don't really mean that Tobias. Some part of you care about her. I rather not be near her as well but sometimes, you got to suck it up. And honestly, I seem to be doing it better then you are..." He remarked, eyes watching the the quill continue to scurry and write. It seemed they both had that talent in making quills write themselves or books write for them. Good to know at least that in someway they were alike.

his brother was stupid not to fear him. and the way tobias was feeling right now, he wouldn't mind pummeling his brother within an inch of his life. but that wasn't how tobias operated. after all, beating the crap out of his brother wouldn't solve the problem at hand. in fact, tobias didn't know what, if anything, would. his mother had scarred him for life, and even mention of her made his blood boil. that was something he had to deal with on his own.
"i couldn't care less about her," he answered carelessly, not even looking up from his work. after the initial shock of amadeus bringing up their mother, tobias was quieting himself down rather well. he didn't like to show emotion, and while amadeus had rather cleverly forced him to get angry, he wasn't about to stay like that for long. tobias always thought better with a clear head. and right now, he was just trying his best to think of a way to get this kid to go away. "and i mean that."
tobias was honestly a bit confused at his brother's next comment. "what's that supposed to mean?" he asked, a slight edge to his voice. he gave his brother a look before returning to his work. perhaps it was because he was multi-tasking, or maybe amadeus was just being particularly cryptic today, but a few things the boy had said today didn't quite make sense. such as the 'favorite son' comment. alecto didn't give a rat's ass about any of them. surely amadeus knew that. didn't he?

Amadeus could see that he wasn't getting anywhere with his brother right now. The once ravenclaw was too focus on his paperwork. He even didn't understand his comment. And he called him naive. As the middle-child, he saw both sides of being 'pampered' if you called it, and being 'used as a punching bag'. He saw both sides...something Tobias probably never experienced.
The male rubbed his eyes at the remark, unsure why he bothered coming here. Nothing was working out it appeared. "Oh come now, don't tell me you haven't seen the way she treats you. That day, when we were in the same house for that odd occasion, one I don't even remember, she went on and on about how you were the better son. How you were more intelligent, understood the laws of the dark magic better, knew this and that. And what she called me? A case who didn't know anything, who couldn't protect himself from simple things." He paused, letting the words soak into his brother's blood.
He rested his hands on the edge of his desk, looking at him. "Our mother might be mad in a sense, crazy, but she knew what she was talking about when it came to us."

tobias couldn't help but be distracted by his paperwork. when he gave it his entire focus, he could usually get through most of it in a couple hours. a bit of dictating here and some high-speed note-taking there and he could turn it in to the department office by the time he needed to go home that night. but with amadeus standing over him babbling about his mother, tobias was having a hard time focusing his attention.
and at amadeus' next comment, tobias tried his best to swallow his anger. or at least cool it down a bit. hot anger was never his friend; he always did stupid things when he was angry. don't tell me you haven't seen the way she treats you. what a stupid thing to say. "have you?" he asked, a biting tone in his voice. "so i'm her favorite son. big f-cking deal. doesn't change the fact that she treats me like a heaping pile of shit. you wanna be the favorite? is that what this is all about? be my guest. just don't come crying to me when you figure out how mummy treats the favorite."
he'd said too much. he bit his tongue immediately, not letting anything else slip out before he had a chance to close his mouth. he focused all his energy back onto his paperwork, driving deep breaths through his nose, nostrils flaring. "so she knows what she's talking about. last time i checked, that wasn't the only criteria for being a good mother."

Amadeus leaned back on his heels as he watched Tobias snap and loose control of his temper. His eyes narrowed just a bit but other then that he didn't show any other emotion. His brother actually snapped. Now that was something he didn't see in quiet sometime now. "I don't want to be her favorite son. I don't think she would like it anyway. And this maybe off topic but your snappy today. Can't keep your cool when it comes to discussing mother Tobias?" He hissed, chuckling with a smirk.

tobias gritted his teeth at his brother's response. he knew he probably deserved that. hell, he'd just cracked in front of his brother, someone he viciouly hated. tobias never cracked, especially not about something as stupid as his mother. the mention of her shouldn't have still made him angry, after all these years. hell, he hadn't seen her since he was fifteen. and it made him squirm to think that she still had the power over him she'd had back then.
he gave amadeus a glare. "don't push it," he snarled at the boy, eyes staring daggers at him. tobias knew it was stupid to get so angry about something that hardly mattered. so he'd raised his voice a bit. big deal. most people would shrug it off and move on. but for tobias, any change in emotion from his usual sullen attitude was a big deal. sure, he could get angry pretty often, but it was always controlled anger, not something wild. "if you don't watch your mouth, i'll have security throw you out," he told the boy matter-of-factly, the emotion draining from his voice. "you shouldn't be here, anyways."
tobias wondered if he should just have the boy thrown out now and save himself the trouble. it wouldn't be too hard. but at the same time, he knew he could handle this himself; he hoped he could get amadeus off his back without the help of security. but then again, watching security drag his brother out of there kicking and screaming would be just far too fun to watch...

Amadeus wasn't impressed at his brother's efforts to return back to his current emotionless. In fact, the efforts looked crappy and weak all at once. The male leaned back on his heels watching as his brother gave him a glare in reply. Stop it? But it was so much fun to tease him.
"if you don't watch your mouth, i'll have security throw you out"
He really thought that scared him? Amadeus snorted in reply shoving his hands into his back pockets. "Tobias, your security doesn't scare me in any shape of form. I mean really, have you seen them at this time in the day?" He snorted, raising an eyebrow. Security here was a little sloppy at this time of day. "They're sluggish," He added watching the ravenclaw in front of him.
There were moments he loved driving his brother mad. This was one of those moments.
